How It Works

How Long Does an Egg Take to Hatch?

Every egg cracks after half an active day, then hatches after one and a half more on Patient or half a day more on Fast. Feeding Bursts adds a little on top.

Hatch speed in WatchieBesti is how quickly your egg cracks and then hatches. Two things set it: the active days you log and the Hatching Speed you chose. Every egg cracks after half an active day. On Patient it then needs one and a half more active days to hatch. On Fast it needs half a day more. Feeding Bursts to the egg adds a small extra push.

The two steps

An egg goes through two changes before it hatches, and each has an activity target and a minimum wait:

  • Egg to cracked egg: half an active day on either setting. On Patient, at least 24 hours must pass after the egg arrives. On Fast, at least an hour.
  • Cracked egg to hatched: one and a half active days on Patient, with at least 24 hours after the crack. Half an active day on Fast, with at least an hour after the crack.

Only activity after the crack counts toward hatching. If you don't know what earns an active day, what an active day means covers the score and the half-day rule.

Fast or Patient

Fast is the shortest path. If you reach your full goal on the day the egg arrives, it can crack and hatch that same day.

Patient takes at least two days and asks for more movement. It's for people who like the wait and watching the warmth bar fill.

Neither setting changes what hatches. When the egg hatches you pick a kingdom, and the species inside it is a surprise.

How to change it

By default, the app asks which speed you want each time a new egg arrives. To set it yourself, open Settings on your watch and tap Hatching Speed. There you can pick Fast or Patient, or have the app ask each time.

The speed locks when the egg cracks. After that, a change in Settings applies to your next egg, not the one you have now. The hatching speed guide has a day-by-day table.

What speeds up a slow egg

  • Reach your full goal. A day at or past your goal counts as a full active day. A day that stops at half counts as half.
  • Use your Move ring. The app takes whichever is further along, steps or Move ring. A swim or a bike ride can fill the day without many steps.
  • Raise your heart rate. Effort well above your resting heart rate scales the day's score up by as much as 1.5 times.
  • Lower your step goal. A goal you reach on a normal day earns more full days. The daily goal guide explains the options.
  • Feed Bursts. Each Workout Burst you feed adds 2% of the current stage, each Activity Burst 1%, and each Brain Burst 0.25%. Burst growth is capped at 15% of the stage per day. On Patient that cap is worth a little under a quarter of an active day toward hatching. The minimum waits still apply. See how Bursts work.

What it looks like across a week

Take a Patient egg and the 6,000-step goal, with no heart rate change:

  • Monday morning: the egg arrives.
  • Tuesday: 3,000 steps by the evening. That's half an active day, more than 24 hours have passed, and the egg cracks.
  • Wednesday: 6,500 steps. One full active day since the crack.
  • Thursday: 3,200 steps. Half a day more makes one and a half, and the egg hatches.

Swap Wednesday for a quiet day of 2,000 steps and the hatch moves to Friday. On Fast, Monday alone would have been enough with 6,000 steps.

While you wait, a Brain Boost game passes the time and can earn a Brain Burst. The eleven games ranked by round length helps you pick one. WatchieBesti is the watch pet that hatches, grows and graduates on your movement.
